Jennifer Aniston felt "heartbreak" over the Friends reunion - Digital Spy

Jennifer Aniston has revealed why she felt some "heartbreak" over reuniting with her former castmates for the much-anticipated Friends reunion, which finally aired this week.

The star, who played Rachel Green for all 10 seasons, admitted that going back to the same stage they filmed on and taking a look around the rebuilt sets "was a sucker punch in the heart in a way" for herself and her co-stars.

She said during a chat with Gayle King on Gayle King In The House that they were all "naive" about what they were going to feel when they returned.

"We romanticised it," Aniston explained, "but you also have to remember we haven't been there [since the show ended] and that time was a very specific time, when we were saying goodbye to something that we didn't want to, we cared deeply about, but we knew it was the time to say goodbye. Our lives were ahead of us. We had our future ahead of us."

The actress said it "almost felt like time had stopped and [they] time-travelled", before noting, "there's good in that, and then there's heartbreak in that".

During the one-off episode, the cast returned to the old Friends soundstage and took a look around reconstructed versions of Monica and Rachel's apartment, Joey and Chandler's apartment and Central Perk.

Aniston's confession came as she kept the nostalgia train rolling on Instagram on Thursday (May 27), the day the special aired.

The star shared a throwback video of herself being interviewed on the set before the pilot episode had even aired. In it, she was asked if she was on "pins and needles" about how the show would be received as her co-stars messed about around her.

Spoiler alert, '90s Jen: It went over VERY well.

Friends streams on Netflix in the UK, where it also airs daily on Comedy Central. In the US, you can stream the show on HBO Max. The Friends reunion special is available on Sky and NOW in the UK, and HBO Max in the US.
